Legislative changes regarding vehicle emissions, which came into force on April 1

Changes have been made to the technical regulations for periodic technical inspections of vehicles related to emissions, which came into force on April 1, 2020.

According to the amendment, only those vehicles that will pass the first registration in Georgia from April 1, 2020 will be obliged to have a catalyst.

It will be mandatory for them to follow the following settings

  • The coefficient of lambda (air / fuel) should not exceed the value specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
  • In case of lack of information - 1 ± 0.03

At the same time, according to the amendment, the following stages of protection of the parameters were determined in relation to the vehicles registered before April 1, 2020:

  • From April 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020: 0.7% for high turnover and idling;
  • From January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2021: 0.6% for high turnover and idling;
  • After January 1, 2022: 0.5% and 0.3% for the high turnover.

Meeting of the Technical Committee

On January 31, the third meeting of the Technical Committee of Georgian Vehicles Inspection Bodies Association was held in Zestaponi, where the following topics were discussed:

  • 2020 Action Plan of the Georgian Vehicles Inspection Bodies Association
  • Compliance of current legislation with European standards
  • Issues of legality of unplanned monitoring
  • 2019-2020 Statistics

All these issues and problems turned into a recommendation and was sent to the relevant agencies for response

Technical Committee Meeting

On December 20, the second meeting of Georgian Vehicle Inspection Bodies Association Technical Committee was held to discuss the following issues:

  • Technical Regulations of the Periodical Technical Inspection 
  • nonhomogeneous approaches

All of those problems was given recommendation and sent to the relevant agencies for response.
